Familial support in Peabody:

Lisa Corcoran of Peabody was supporting her relative and Lynn Police Chief Kevin Coppinger for Essex County Sheriff outside Saint Ann's with a Coppinger for Sheriff sign.

"It was very nice to cast a vote for Chief Coppinger," Corcoran said of the Democratic candidate. As for the rest of the ballot, she's just happy it's over.

"Neither candidate for president is worth of the office," she said. "It's gonna be a close one, and it'll be a recount." Both the question on charter schools and the question on the legalization of marijuana stood out to Corcoran.

Just down the road from Corcoran was Kirsten Archer of Georgetown, Essex County Sheriff candidate Mark Archer's sister-in-law, holding an Archer for Sheriff sign in support of her brother-in-law.

"It's been wonderful to see the turnout," Archer said. "I'm really grateful it's a beautiful day." She said honks and waves from passing drivers had been keeping her going since 8 a.m.

"He's just a down to earth, amazing guy," Archer said of her brother-in-law, an Independent candidate.

As for the presidential race, she said she just happy that it's over, and that the election had forced her to explain certain things to her kids. But the contentiousness of the presidential election made people more open to an Independent candidate for sheriff, Archer said.
