Peabody Apartment Fire Rages On Main Street Overnight

Forty residents, and their pets, were all accounted for as of Thursday morning.

PEABODY, MA — Forty Peabody residents were without a place to live Thursday morning after an overnight fire gutted a Main Street apartment building.

The fire broke out in the rear of a 3.5-story apartment building at 100 Main Street around midnight. Initial reports said crews had trouble locating the start of the fire and had to evacuate as it spread into the walls.

Multiple media reports said when crews attempted to reenter the building there were floors on the very of collapse.

Reports said all 40 residents of the apartment building, as well as their pets, had been accounted for early Thursday morning.

Many of the residents are being sheltered at the nearby Knights of Columbus Hall.
