Jaclyn Corriveau shares why she's running for Peabody City Council in the latest Patch candidate profile for the 2019 city election.

"My opponent has voted for every tax increase since being in office and has failed to advocate for better fiscal management and oversight of our tax dollars," Corriveau said.

Quality of life. With the continual increase in taxes, pending cell phone tower in a residential neighborhood and several 40b development projects in the works, now is the time to keep our eye on our elected officials to ensure that we are well represented and have strong advocates for our quality of life.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

I will be accessible, I will be fiscally responsible and I will be a proactive advocate on behalf of the residents.

If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community?

In being involved in neighborhood issues such as the pending cell phone tower and odor coming from the Rousselot plant, I was disappointed to discover that the incumbent was not involved very much if at all on either issue and residents were left without an advocate from City Hall. In addition, my opponent has voted for every tax increase since being in office and has failed to advocate for better fiscal management and oversight of our tax dollars.

Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform:

I am concerned about development and housing in general. I think that we need to be more concerned with the impact that large developments have on residents rather than being concerned with attracting developers. We need to be committed to meeting the 10% affordable housing threshold so that one, everyone can have the chance to be a homeowner, and two because failing to meet this threshold makes Peabody a target for high density 40b projects that will negatively impact our beautiful neighborhoods.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I have been committed to Peabody for as long as I can remember. I volunteered for 7 years at the Torigian Community Life Center, I’ve worked and volunteered at Haven from Hunger, and I’ve managed the Peabody Farmer’s Market. I am in tune with residents from all walks of life. And as a life long resident myself, I have a understanding of our community and commitment to do what is right for our residents.

The best advice ever shared with me was ...

It’s never the wrong time to do what is right.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

As person committed to Peabody, I am very excited about the opportunity to serve on the City Council. I humbly ask for your vote for I can bring my commitment to serving you to City Hall.
