Peabody High Softball Team To Play For State Title Friday Night

The Tanners will take on Taunton for the Division 1 state championship on the campus of UMass-Amherst at 5:30 p.m.

PEABODY, MA — The Peabody Veterans Memorial High School softball team will head to Amherst on a title mission Friday.

The Tanners will face Taunton for the Division 1 state championship in a game to be played on the campus of UMass-Amherst.

Ninth-seeded Peabody advanced to the title game with a 3-2 victory against fourth-seeded Wachusett on Tuesday night.

Peabody's tournament run also included a 3-0 victory against 24th-seeded New Bedford, a 7-4 triumph against eighth-seeded Reading and an 11-1 trouncing of 16th-seeded Newton North after the Tigers bounced top-seeded Bishop Feehan in the previous round.

Third-seeded Taunton rolled to a 25-0 victory against Newton South in its tournament opener, followed by a 4-3 win over Bridgewater-Raynham and a 5-2 toppling of Central Catholic before it beat Methuen, 6-3, in the Final Four matchup on Wednesday.
