Peabody Man Launches Graphic Design Studio
After a decade of moonlighting, Geoff Bloom is now his own boss.
PEABODY, MA – After 10 years of doing freelance graphic design work on top of his day job, Geoff Bloom had accumulated so much work that he didn't have time for anything else. So three months ago, he took the leap and left his job as the creative director at NECCO to work full time at his own studio: Gigawatt Graphics.
"I always wanted to be my own boss," said Bloom of his Peabody-based business. "I was ramping it up for 10 years and got to a point where I wasn't sleeping anymore."
Bloom – who left his previous job on good terms – said the experience has been "liberating," and that the flexible schedule has made life less stressful. When he was in high school, graphic design was more about silkscreening than Adobe suite, but Bloom learned the craft and eventually went on to design ticket books to hold season tickets for Bruins, Patriots, and Red Sox fans.

Bloom is also known for his minimalist movie posters, which have been shared widely online for their artistic nods to classic movies. The name of Bloom's studio – Gigawatt Graphics – is inspired by "Back To The Future." His posters are currently hanging in an Ipswich gallery, and can also be viewed on his website.
Blooms has varied experience in designing packages, with a knack for eye-catching home wares and candy packaging, but Gigawatt Graphics is a full service studio versed in web services and branding. He said he hopes to branch out into design for publishing and music.
