Peabody Municipal Light Plant Issues Heat Advisory Statement
Hot days mean a higher demand for electricity.
The Peabody Municipal Light Plant released the following Heat Advisory Alert: August 11 –12, 2016:
Please be advised that the extreme heat forecasted for today and tomorrow may create a high demand for electricity usage. PMLP has secured the necessary power to meet all of our customers’ electrical needs reliably. PMLP’s overall costs are increased significantly due to these high energy demands. Any reduction in our system electric load will help PMLP (and ultimately our customers) to avoid excessive peak demand and transmission charges from the Independent System Operator of New England (ISO-New England), which will remain in place for one full year from the time the demand was created. Any reduction in electric use you can achieve during 4 – 6 PM on Thursday, August 11, 2016 and 3 –5 PM on Friday, August 12, 2016 may help offset future energy costs.
PMLP thanks you in advance for your cooperation.
If you have questions, please contact PMLP, 24 hours a day/7 days a week, at 978-531-5975.
TIPS:
• Postpone using appliances like washers and dryers until later in the day (early evening).
• Shut off pool pumps for a few hours.
• Raise the setting on your air conditioning a few degrees.
• Cook dinner on the grill instead.
• Forward our notifications to help to get the word out.
