Peabody Names Interim Superintendent
Retired Newbury Public Schools Superintendent Marc Kerble takes over for Cara Murtagh, who died unexpectedly last month.

PEABODY, MA — Peabody Public Schools named Dr. Marc Kerble, who retired as superintendent of Newburyport Public Schools in 2013, interim superintendent. Kerble takes over for Cara Murtagh, who died unexpectedly last month. The school committee also expects to start the search for a permanent replacement after the new year.
Kerble's C.V. includes 16 years as a teacher in Peabody Public Schools and he graduated from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School. Since his retirement, he has served as a district reviewer for the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
"The School Committee was particularly impressed with the breadth of Dr. Kerble’s teaching and administrative experience. His prolific career includes stints as Teacher of Special Needs, Curriculum Coordinator, Director of Title I, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent of Schools," Mayor Ted Bettencourt, who also sits on the school committee, said in a statement. "We feel confident that Dr. Kerble will provide the leadership and stability our school community needs."
