Peabody OUI Suspect Gets Candid With Police

When asked if she had taken any drugs, the woman allegedly told police she wanted to but none were available.

SOMERVILLE, MA – They say honesty is the best policy, and one Peabody woman took that adage to heart during an OUI arrest in Somerville last week when she allegedly told police she wanted to take drugs but none were available.

Alicia Scanlon, 30, was arrested Wednesday night at 11:56 p.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Mt. Vernon Street after police received reports of a gray Toyota Highlander traveling "all over the road."
Police pulled Scanlon over and said during the traffic stop a "strong" odor of alcohol could allegedly be detected on her breath. She told police she was coming from the Middle East bar in Cambridge and said she drank two 16-ounce Harpoons.

Scanlon agreed to a field sobriety test and answered further questions from the responding officer. She told police she went to the bar around 4 p.m. and left at 11:30 p.m., eating a quesadilla for dinner at a restaurant within walking distance from the bar. When asked if she had taken any drugs, she allegedly replied that she wanted to but none were available.

Police asked if she knew what time it was and where she was, and she allegedly stated that it was 11:45 p.m. and she was in Quincy. She refused to take off her shoes – which had approximately two-inch heels – before taking the field sobriety test.

Based on the results, police arrested Scanlon and charged her with operating under the influence of liquor, failure to wear a seatbelt and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
