'Overwhelming' Support For Peabody Main Street Fire Victims
The city is now seeking housing options for the more than 40 residents displaced in last week's fire.
PEABODY, MA — North Shore residents delivered overwhelming support to help those displaced during an apartment fire that destroyed a Peabody Main Street building late last week with the city now seeking housing options and ongoing monetary and gift card donations for the 40 residents left without a home in the early morning blaze.
The city had been accepting clothing donations at the Knights of Columbus but those are no longer needed after a "tremendous volume" of support.
Those looking to make a gift card or monetary donation can do so at the City Treasurer's Office.

"The city of Peabody would like to thank our community for the outpouring of support for the residents affected by last week's fire," the Department of Health said. "At this time, we are no longer taking donations of clothing, as we have received a tremendous volume already. Please do not bring any clothing to the Knights of Columbus or to City Hall.
"The most critical need at the moment is for housing. If any property owners have a local rental unit that is currently vacant, please reach out to sgrinnell@peabodypolice.org."
