Peabody Snow Emergency Parking Ban Set To Expire Monday Morning

The parking ban was put in place as of midnight Sunday to allow for plowing should totals have been significant.

PEABODY, MA — The snow emergency parking ban called in Peabody Sunday night will expire Monday morning.

Mayor Ted Bettencourt said the ban will expire at 10 a.m. with cars then allowed to be parked on city streets without penalty.

The city called the parking ban Sunday morning with up to 3 to 6 inches of snow predicted for inland areas of the North Shore.

The combination of rain, snow, sleet left mostly slush totals across eastern Massachusetts that were underwhelming by winter standards. But they did trigger some school disruptions in the area with both Essex Tech and North Shore Community College in Danvers delaying openings.

Essex Tech had a two-hour delay with North Shore CC opening classes and administrative offices at 10 a.m.

Cancellations were more numerous in north central Massachusetts where more than 8 inches of snow fell in parts of Worcester County and far northwestern Middlesex County.

Ashby was the jackpot location, according to the National Weather Service reporters, at 8.3 inches of snow.

Ashburnham measured 7.7 inches, Hawley in Franklin County was at 7.4 inches as of 9 a.m. on Monday, Lunenberg was at 6.1 inches and Fitchburg at 5.5 inches.

Worcester came in at 4.8 inches at the elevated airport location with Logan Airport in Boston only getting three-tenths of an inch of snow.
