Peabody Veterans Legal Program Launched

Twice a month, volunteer lawyers will be on hand to help Peabody veterans with various legal issues.

PEABODY, MA – Peabody Veterans Agent Steve Patten launched a new program last week to help the city's veterans with various legal issues. The program, which will be aided by attorneys from Salem's Porcello Law Offices, can help Peabody veterans with wills, healthcare proxy, durable power of attorney, and basic deed drafting.

Porcello Law Offices' attorneys – including Patten's wife, Lindsey Patten – will act as volunteers, and can offer consulting in some areas of family law like custody, child support, and alimony.

"They're a great firm, and they work hard for their clients," said Steve Patten last Friday when he announced the program.

Jean Porcello said her father originally founded the Porcello Law Offices.

"My father was a veteran, and we're more than happy to help anyone in the City of Peabody," she said.

Steven Patten said to think of wills like cars, in that it's helpful to bring them in for tune ups. He stressed that the firm was working on a volunteer basis, and wasn't going to take money from Peabody veterans.

Porcello Law Offices will be in the health room at the Torigian Community Life Center every second and fourth Friday of the month, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Veterans can sign up at the front desk, and Patten noted that services may take more than one appointment to complete.
