Peabody Vietnam Veterans To Be Honored Friday
The city's Veterans Day breakfast will have special commemorations for veterans of Vietnam War.

PEABODY, MA – Every other year, the city hosts a Veterans Day breakfast to honor its veterans. At each event, veterans of a specific war time have been given special commemorations. The city has given such honors at the breakfast for veterans of World War II and the Korean War, and on Friday veterans of the Vietnam War will be honored.
"I expect that this year we're going to have our biggest crowd," said Mayor Ted Bettencourt last week. "To me, it's entirely important to honor our veterans who have given sacrifices."
The breakfast will be on Friday, Nov. 11, starting at 8:30 a.m. in Peabody City Hall.

Each veteran will get a physical token of the city's thanks: A challenge coin engraved with the George Peabody House on one side and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the other.
"These brave men and women answered their country’s call to service during a particularly difficult period in our country’s history," said Bettencourt.

The Veterans Services office has also put together a slideshow of veterans photos either taken by Peabody residents or of Peabody residents. Veterans Agent Stephen Patten said the breakfast fell on just the right time: The event takes place within the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.
