Peabody Weekend House Fire Causes 'Significant Damage'

The Peabody Fire Department said there were no injuries from a fire that started in the basement of a home on Ellsworth Road.

PEABODY, MA — A Peabody home on Ellsworth Road sustained "significant damage" from a basement fire that struck two alarms and drew mutual aid from six neighboring cities and towns on Sunday morning.

Peabody fire said crews arrived at the house shortly before 7 a.m. on Sunday morning for reported smoke with fire showing from the basement. All residents of the house were outside when police and fire crews arrived with no injuries reported.

"We quickly had a knockdown in the basement but the fire had already traveled up the chimney chase to floors one and town," PFD said. "We did have an initial hydrant issue that was resolved and water supply was established without delay."
