Peabody West Little Leaguers Honored At State House

Gov. Charlie Baker and several other state officials read a proclamation and delivered the players certificates of commendation.

PEABODY, MA — The tour of triumph continued for the Peabody West Little League All-Stars on Wednesday with a stop at the State House.

Rep. Sally Kerans, Rep. Thomas Walsh and Sen. Joan Lovely j9ined Gov. Charlie Baker for a short ceremony on the State House steps that included a proclamation and the distribution of certificates commending the players on their state championship.

The 12-year-old All-Star team is next scheduled to hit Fenway Park on Sept 7 where the Red Sox will honor them during a pregame ceremony before a game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Peabody West advanced to the semifinals of the New England Regionals after beating Pittsfield West for the Massachusetts state title in Gloucester.

Peabody West won its tournament opener in Bristol, Connecticut against Saco, Maine before coming up short against Manchester, Connecticut and Hooksett-North Manchester, NH.

Because international teams could not participate this year, two teams from each region went to Williampsort. This Peabody West team was attempting to become the first Massachusetts team to make it to the Little League World Series since a Peabody West team made it in 2009.
