Peabody Winter Emergency Parking Ban Begins Friday Night

The city declared its first parking ban of the season with up to 4 inches of snow expected on the North Shore Friday afternoon and evening.

PEABODY, MA — The first winter parking ban of the season was declared in Peabody on Friday with parts of eastern Massachusetts forecast to get hit with up to 4 inches of snow heading into the final weekend before Christmas.

The restriction will begin at 9 p.m. with all cars parked on city streets subject to ticketing and towing.

"Please remove all parked cars from public roads to allow for safe and effective snowplow operations," Peabody police said in announcing the parking ban.

The National Weather Service on Friday issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of eastern
Massachusetts.

The area includes Greater Boston, the North Shore, MetroWest, Merrimack Valley and areas south and west out to Worcester.

While the storm is too far offshore to produce a big storm, nuisance snow is forecast throughout the day with heavier amounts around the time of the evening commute in areas just outside of Boston.

Roads may become slick during the heavier periods with slow travel urged.
