School Officials Seek State Funding Assistance

Peabody, MA - School officials and the mayor are looking for approval to submit statements of interest to the Massachusetts School Building Authority for projects at three of the city's schools.

The City Council could vote on the requests from Mayor Ted Bettencourt at Thursday night's council meeting.

Filing the statements of interest with the MSBA would help put Peabody in the pipeline for state funding for the projects.

School officials are looking to perform a feasibility study for the replacement of the Center School.

The proposed project at the Burke Elementary School includes the replacement of obsolete unit ventilators, cabinet heaters, and gym and cafeteria air handling units with modern HVAC equipment and controls.

The project proposed for the Welch Elementary School includes conversion of the electrically heated school to natural gas, replacement of the existing obsolete HVAC systems and controls, and replacement of windows and exterior doors throughout the school.
