Philip F. Freehan of Ipswich has joined as a Vice President with the Commercial Banking Group.
Freehan brings more than 30 years of community banking and commercial lending experience to the position. Prior to joining The Savings Bank, he was associated with Meridian Financial Services, Inc./East Boston Savings Bank of Peabody for over 25 years as Executive Vice President/Senior Loan Officer, Bank Director and Community Reinvestment Act Officer. During his years of service at Meridian Financial Services/East Boston Savings Bank, Freehan developed and implemented commercial and residential loan origination strategy, and oversaw the approval of $3.5 billion in loans and a $623 million loan portfolio, the majority of which were commercial loans. He started his commercial lending career with Shawmut Merchants Bank of Salem where he was Vice President of Commercial Lending.

Freehan received his Bachelor of Science degree with honors from Suffolk University and completed the Certified Financial Planner program at Merrimack College. He is also a graduate of the National School of Finance at Fairfield University. He also proudly served in the United States Army Reserves.
His professional affiliations include serving as a member and Chairman of the Real Estate Finance Committee of the Massachusetts Bankers Association. He has also been active in many civic and charitable endeavors, including his current role as President of the Board of Trustees and Scholarship Chairman of the East Boston K Trust, and as a past President of the Kiwanis Club of East Boston. He is a former Trustee of North Shore Community College, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Finance Chairman and Vice Chairman. Freehan was also instrumental in establishing a Financial Literacy Collaborative with several organizations, including FDIC and North Shore Community College.
