READING, MA — An armed person barricaded themselves in their home late Sunday night, drawing a large police response.

Police responded to the call at 11:13 p.m. on Pierce Street regarding a person experiencing a mental health crisis crisis who had barricaded themselves in their home and was armed, according to police.

Police were assisted by specially trained negotiators. The person was taken into protective custody and will be connected with appropriate mental health services, according to police.

Responders remained at the scene of the incident until about 1:45 a.m. Monday.

Police said there is no active threat the community.
