Committee Names Finalists For Reading Municipal Light GM Job

The Reading Municipal Light Department Board of Directors will interview finalists next month to appoint a new permanent general manager.

READING, MA — The Reading Municipal Light Department is one step closer to having a new permanent general manager after a formal recommendation last week from the department’s General Manager Search Committee.

The committee on Thursday advanced three finalists to be considered for the general manager job.

Finalists include current Ipswich Electric Light Department General Manager Jonathan Blair, Port of Oakland Manager of Utilities and Administration Jared Carpenter and current Reading Municipal Light Interim General Manager Gregory Phipps. Phipps is also the light department’s director of integrated resources.

Finalists will go before the Reading Municipal Light Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. for interviews. The board will then announce a new general manager on Nov. 3, according to an announcement from Reading Municipal Light on Friday.

Reading Municipal Light serves customers in Reading, Wilmington, North Reading and parts of Lynnfield.

Former General Manager Coleen O’Brien announced her retirement in March to take effect at the end of June of this year.

O’Brien had served as Reading Municipal Light’s general manager for the past nine years.
