Crews To Begin Two-Month Gas Main Project In Reading
Work is expected to begin on Wednesday and run into the last week of October.

READING, MA — Crews will begin a process to replace a natural gas main and natural gas main piping on Washington Street in Reading on Wednesday, kicking off roughly two-months of work in the area.
Construction will impact at least 18 area premises, according to a notice shared by the town on Monday. Work is expected to wrap up on or around Oct. 28.
The piping in question connects a nearby gas main to individual customers’ gas meters. Crews will work, weather permitting, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays over the next two months.

“National Grid states that their crews will work hard to complete this project promptly and with minimal disruption to the community,” the town of Reading said in its statement.
Area residents can expect to see a variety of work related to this project in the coming weeks, including excavation of part of Washington Street, according to the town. Any interior gas meters will need to be relocated to the outside of homes or businesses.

The area impacted by this work spans from 166 Washington St. to 196 Washington St. in Reading. That area represents roughly .1 miles of largely residential properties just off Main Street.
Residents in the area can expect a visit from a representative of either National Grid or its contractor crew to schedule work to connect the new gas main to their home. Representatives will carry ID, as noted in a notice to area gas customers.
That individual service line work will take roughly one business day and will temporarily interrupt individual gas service, according to the notice. Crews will need to have access to a home and its appliances as they help turn on the new gas service.
