Dishrag Found In Burrito From Reading Chipotle, Customer Says

Seanna Balfe said her daughter bit into the burrito and "tasted soap."

READING, MA — A customer of Chipotle in Reading wants answers after she said her daughter found a dishrag inside her burrito.

Seanna Balfe ordered delivery from the restaurant on Aug. 11. She and her husband initially thought their daughters were playing a practical joke when they heard screams from the other room.

"My daughter actually bit into it and tasted the towel," Balfe told Patch. "[She] said it tasted like soap."

Balfe filed a report with the Reading health inspector, but so far has struggled to get relief from Chipotle itself. She went to the store on Walkers Brook Drive, where the staff "didn't seem to know what to do" besides make her another burrito, Balfe said.

She connected with a representative from Chipotle's corporate headquarters on Tuesday – nearly a week after the incident – who was "very apologetic, said our meal would be refunded and offered a voucher of two free meals," Balfe said.

Chipotle did not respond to a Patch request for comment, and the store manager referred questions to the corporate offices.

Balfe said she just wants to understand how this happened. She believes it was a prank, but wants the restaurant to investigate and implement better training and protocols.

"I want someone to own up to it," she said.

The family hopes to prevent something similar from happening to another customer.

"It's gross, disappointing," Balfe said. "We just don't want it to happen to somebody else."
