Drunk Driver Struck Mailbox, Fled: Reading Police
The man became belligerent during the booking process and later urinated on a cell floor, according to police.
READING, MA — A man is accused of striking a mailbox while driving drunk in Reading, according to police.
Police responded to Beaver Road on Tuesday at 10:56 p.m. on a report of a white van that struck a mailbox and was idling.
On the way, police received a report that the man was leaving. Officers found the van, which had damages consistent with a recent crash, and stopped it.

Police spoke with the driver, Kevin Macario, 25, of Lynn. Officers said they detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Macario.
He was arrested and during the book process became belligerent and uncooperative with officers., police said. Police placed Macario in a holding cell, stopping the booking process.

Macario then began to damage the cell and urinated on the floor, police said.
Police searched his vehicle and said they found an open bottle of brandy, a bottle of whiskey, and a cup of what appeared to be alcohol in the cup holder.
Macario was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle after suspension of license, possession alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of property damage.
He was arraigned in Woburn District Court on Wednesday.
