EDC Accepting Retail Visioning Internship Applications

Seeking Visual Merchandiser for Downtown Retail Windows

Reading, MA  July 1, 2013---  The Economic Development Committee (EDC,) in conjunction with the Town of Reading Planning Division,  is accepting applications for a Retail Visioning Intern  as a Visual Merchandiser for grant award winners of retail consulting.  For the second year, the Town of Reading’s EDC will be offering Best Retail Practices consultations which bring professional advice to independent retailers in the areas of store and restaurant design, layout and visual merchandising, customer service and both traditional and social media marketing.  

As a complimentary service, the EDC will be offering visual merchandising consulting for these businesses. The EDC is looking for interns that have experience in Art - Commercial/Advertising, Communications – Multimedia, or Design - Communication/Graphic Design.

Through this internship you’ll have the opportunity to work with retail consultant, Christine Moynihan, and store owners in downtown Reading to conceive of and install great window displays.  This internship will give you the opportunity to apply your creativity, talent and skill on a real-world stage and learn how to work with clients and show your practical side too.  You’ll be working with store products and be given a $50 budget for signage, props, and backdrops – whatever you and the store owner conceive. For four stores the EDC has allocated $200/store for your services, for a total of $800.

As outlined, requirements of this internship include:
1)  Attend briefing session with retail consultant, Chris Moynihan
2)  Meet with store owner on products to be featured or story to be told in window
3)  Sketch ideas, source props, signage, whatever is needed
4)  Get approval from consultant and retailer
5)  Install and photograph
