Five Things to Know Today: April 9

Your guide to Reading today.

Today is Tuesday, April 9. Here are five things to know today:

1. Bring your umbrella. The temperature will reach 77 degrees today with a low of 46. Expect cloudy skies with a chance of rain and thunder showers throughout the day.  

2. Reading Board of Selectmen. The selectmen will meet at Reading Town Hall at 7 p.m. The new selectmen will be sworn in and a liquor license hearing for the Portland Pie Company is on the agenda.

3. North Reading Compost Site. The Compost Site at the DPW Complex, 166 Chestnut St., is now open daily. Residents can take household quantities of compost and drop off grass clippings and leaves. No branches are accepted and contractors are not allowed to use the site. Normal hours are Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but residents can call the DPW at 978-664-6071 for approval for site access during the work week, a recent press release said.

4. North Reading Secondary Schools Building Committee. The SSBC will meet at North Reading High School at 5:30 p.m. A construction progress update and design update are both items on the agenda.

5. Artsfest 2013. Stop by Reading Memorial High School at 5:30 p.m. to see artwork by Reading students on display and listen to musical performances.
