If you ever wondered why your Italian ancestors have five cousins all named Joe, or why married Italian women traveled under their maiden names, this event is for you.
Ms. Fortier will also discuss names that changed when Italians arrived in America, why Italians were slow to naturalize and why food was a source of celebration. This talk explores the factors that pushed and pulled Italians to emigrate, what they found when they arrived, Italian naming patterns and name changes, and how to start your ancestor search. Several examples of records will be examined.
