In case you missed it, RMHS students and faculty "high fived" Assistant Principal Michael Scarpitto on his final day of school.
Reading Memorial High School students and faculty celebrated the upcoming retirement of longtime school teacher and assistant principal Michael Scarpitto.
The celebration for Scarpitto took place shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, according to RMHS officials.
During Scarpitto’s tenure at RMHS, he celebrated students’ academic efforts and achievements in a number of ways. Scarpitto created the weekly “High Five Award” for seniors and he held the “Excellence Luncheons” to honor students with outstanding grades after each marking quarter, according to RMHS officials. Additionally, each fall Scarpitto calls the families of each incoming freshman student welcoming them to RMHS and each spring he high fives senior students entering the building on their final day of classes.

“He loves everything ‘Reading’ and is a true ‘Rocket’ who bleeds red and black,” assistant principal Laura Olsen said about Scarpitto.
According to school officials, a victory bell was unveiled at RMHS in 2014, which students had engraved in honor of Scarpitto. He rings the victory bell in celebration of both student and faculty “victories”.
