Major Reading Road Closed Due To Manhole Fire, Police Say

READING, MA — Part of Main Street is closed Wednesday afternoon due to a fire in a manhole that emergency crews are handling, according to police.

Police said shortly after 2 p.m. that the road is closed from Hopkins Street to Knowllwood Road.

There is no access to Main Street from Cross Street or Summer Avenue, police said.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area.

A post from Reading Firefighters Local 1640 said the closure was due to "an underground electrical issue."
