Police got a description of the suspect. Following an investigation, Abernathy was arrested.

Police said they searched Abernathy and found he had items consistent with those reported in the theft.

"We would not have been able to make an arrest as quickly as we did without the community's help in calling this incident in and providing such thorough descriptions of the subject," Chief David Clark said in a statement. "If the community sees something suspicious, I urge them to report it."

Abernathy was arraigned on Aug. 9 in Woburn District Court.
