MassDOT Prepares For Significant Road Diet Work In Reading

MassDOT will hold a public meeting next month before it starts resurfacing and reconfiguring lanes on Main Street in June.

READING, MA — MassDOT will hold a public meeting next month on the Route 28/Main Street Resurfacing and Road Diet Pilot Project in Reading. The project, started in 2019, involves resurfacing and re-marking lanes on North Main Street between the town line and Charles Street and South Main Street between the MBTA railroad crossing and the I-90 interchange.

Final paving and lane reconfiguration is set to begin in June. This will create a center turn lane and reduce parts of North and South Main Street from four lanes to three in an effort to improve safety for people traveling along the corridor.

MassDOT will host a virtual public meeting Tuesday, May 11 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to update the public on the project.
