North Reading Tax Bills to Increase in 2013

If approved by the Department of Revenue, taxes will go up to $16.04 per thousand, which is quite an increase over last year's rate of $14.38 per thousand. The town will get confirmation on the rate from the Department of Revenue in December.
The average single family home value in North Reading is $452,400, Assessor Debbie Carbone said. The new tax bill for a home of that value will be approximately $7,256.
Taxes have increased over the last several years. Last year, the tax rate was $14.38 per thousand and $14 in the previous year. However, a large increase was expected for 2013 due to the school building project.

Members of the Board of Selectmen agree that a single tax rate is fair for the town going forward, so North Reading will maintain a single tax rate.
Tax bills are due Feb. 1.
