NRHS Graduate Drafted By Nashville Predators

graduate Jimmy Vesey was picked in the third round of the NHL draft. The Nashville Predators will own his rights for the next five years.

Vesey, , started skating when he was 4-years-old and began playing hockey at age six. He has played througout his life, and earlier this year he broke the single-season scoring record in the Eastern Junior Hockey League.

He was recently drafted in the third round, 66th overall in the NHL Entry Draft by the Predators. 

"I went to the draft with my family so I heard my name called and it was the best feeling in the world," he said.

The Nashville Predators own his rights for the next five years, meaning that if he goes pro in that time, he will play for them, he said.

He is looking forward to playing for an organization that has a "good team and a great fan base," Vesey said.

Vesey does not have to move to Nashville, but recently spent a week there for the Predators' Prospect Camp. When the Predators feel that he is ready to play, he will be called up to the professional league. It could be a number of years, he said.

"This past year has been the best of my life and it wouldn't be possible without all of the great people I met at NRHS and in this community," Vesey said of North Reading.

Despite being drafted, he will still attend Harvard University in the fall.
