A Letter to the Editor from Caroline Colarusso:

In 2016 I was elected to the position of Republican State Committeewoman for the district that includes Reading. I can remember standing out at the High School the evening of the election in March of 2016 where I had the opportunity to speak with many Reading residents and listened to their concerns. Many people told me that taxes and fees were making it hard for them to stay in the community they helped build, the place they call home.

During my campaign I promised to work to elect more good government candidates. Since that time, I have worked to help Erin Calvo-Bacci in her race for State Senate and John Halsey and Dan Ensminger, your current Select Board Members. Now it’s time to help elect Carlo Bacci to the Reading Select Board.

Full disclosure: I am a Stoneham Selectwoman as well, but because of my role as State Committeewoman, I closely follow events in Reading.

I find it disturbing that folks like me who tend to generally oppose overrides are labeled as people who are insensitive and don’t care about our schools and our communities as a whole. That is the furthest thing from the truth. What people like me care about is keeping our communities affordable for all to enjoy. That’s why I am supporting Carlo Bacci for Select Board. Carlo understands that taxpayers are not supposed to act as ATM machines for local government. Carlo understand what it takes to operate efficiently because he makes a payroll every week as a small business owner with the challenges that go along with being responsible for delivering a product and ensuring your employees are paid. That is exactly what town government must do instead of continually reaching for our wallets.

From my own personal experience, some of the most productive boards I have been part of are those that have balance. Those boards where there are contrasting ideas, diversity of thought, and where not everyone is rowing in the same direction. Carlo will bring that balance to the Reading Select Board. He is an independent thinker who can get results for Reading residents. Carlo offers something different. He will challenge the status quo, hold local government accountable, and he won’t reach for your wallet in an effort to solve every problem.

I am asking you to give Carlo Bacci a chance on Tuesday, April 2nd. His common sense problem solving approach and work ethic will serve the residents of Reading well over the next three years.

Sincerely,

Caroline Colarusso, Stoneham
