Public Hearing On Reading McDonald's Rebuild Coming Up

A proposal calls for the Main Street restaurant to be razed and rebuilt with a dual-lane drive through.

READING, MA — A rebuild of a Reading McDonald's restaurant will be on the Planning Board's agenda Oct. 6. A public hearing was scheduled for earlier this week but was continued without discussion, according to Community Development Director Andrew MacNichol.

McDonald's plans to rebuild its Main Street restaurant and add a second drive-through lane. Reading's Zoning Board of Appeals approved special permits allowing the drive-through along with digital menu boards at a recent meeting.

The redevelopment would involve razing the 3,400-square-foot restaurant and rebuilding it with a modern aesthetic.

The new restaurant at 413 Main St. will have a 3,970-square-foot footprint, according to documents filed with the town.

The current proposal includes 30 parking spaces with a restaurant that seats up to 45 people, MacNichol said.
