Reading Bicycle Recycling And Give-Away Takes Place This Weekend

The event, at the RMLD building, gives people a chance to donate old bikes and pick up a previously used bike for free.

READING, MA — The annual Bicycle Recycling and Give-Away next month in Reading gives people a chance to get rid of bikes they no longer use, while possibly finding a new ride.

The two-day event will take place Friday and Saturday at the Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) building, located at 230 Ash St. in Reading. The event is sponsored by ReadingCares and the Reading Climate Action Committee with support from RMLD and the Town of Reading.

From 11 a.m. to noon on Friday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, the public is invited to the RMLD building to donate used bikes that are in good condition.

At noon on Saturday, people who donated a bike to the effort will have an opportunity to use their free bike voucher to take home one of the refurbished bikes.

At 12:30 p.m., the general public will be offered the chance to adopt one of the refurbished bikes at no charge.

"This is a great opportunity to get rid of bikes that are no longer being used and to give them a second life," organizers of the event said in a statement.

Additionally, the Reading Police Department will be on hand to promote bike safety.

Organizers of the event remind attendees that on-site parking is limited and available only for dropping off bikes. Attendees looking to take home a bike are asked to park in public parking spaces. No parking will be allowed at or behind the RMLD building.
