Reading Christmas Tree Disposal Details
Find out when you can discard your Christmas tree via curbside collection or by dropping it off at the Compost Center.

READING, MA — The Town of Reading has announced details of its Christmas tree curbside collection and Compost Center drop-off for next month.
According to the town officials, Republic Services will collect Christmas trees curbside from Jan. 17-21. The Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday is Jan. 16, so trash, recycling and tree collection will be on a one-day delay that week.
Meanwhile, the Compost Center, located on Strout Avenue at the end of Grove Street past the golf course, will be open from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 21, and residents can drop off their Christmas trees at that time.

Town officials said all decorations, including tinsel, must be removed from the trees. Residents also must have 2023 compost access permits in order to gain access to the Compost Center.
Officials also noted that trees in bags and trees not completely cleaned of all materials will not be picked up curbside or accepted at the Compost Center.
