READING, MA — A paid parking program set to roll out will be delayed until 2024.

"Due to delays in the shipping of kiosk equipment, we have decided to postpone the implementation of the paid parking system to mid-January 2024, weather depending," the town wrote in a social media post.

Paid parking options for Downtown Reading will include the Upper Municipal Lot behind CVS and the Brande Court Lot (aka the Old Atlantic lot) will allow visitors to park for longer than two hours.

Each lot will have two kiosks and utilize a pay-by-plate systems. There will be no need to put a receipt in the car's windshield.

The first hour is free. One to four hours of parking is $1 per hour. After four hours is $5 per hour.

Payment is accepted via credit card, Pay to Park app, and coins.

Parking is regulated from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

On-street parking remains free.
