Reading Delegation Secures $100K For Local Schools
The funding is part of a larger bill that the legislature recently passed.

READING, MA — The state will provide $100,000 in funding for Reading Public Schools as part of a larger supplemental spending bill that provides funding for education and transportation-related initiatives, according to a statement from House Minority Leader Bradley H. Jones, Jr. (R-North Reading), State Rep. Richard M. Haggerty (D-Woburn), and State Sen. Jason M. Lewis (D-Winchester).
The bill is funded primarily through surplus revenues generated by the voter-approved Fair Share surtax on incomes over $1 million, which was passed earlier this month and is now on Gov. Maura Healey’s desk for her review and signature.
“This earmark language provides flexibility to the Reading Public Schools so the money can be directed where the needs are greatest and where it will be most effective in improving students’ educational experiences," Jones said in a statement.

The $100,000 secured by Reading’s State House delegation will be made available to support “materials, equipment and capital improvements” for the Reading Public Schools.
“This funding will allow the Reading Public Schools to use this money in a variety of areas of need, leading to a better educational experience for the students,” Haggerty said in a statement. “I was happy to work with Representative Jones and Senator Lewis in securing this funding on the town’s behalf.”
