Reading Fire Department Open House Will Wrap Up Fire Prevention Week

The national Fire Prevention Week program is marking its 100th anniversary this year.

READING, MA — Reading community members will get an inside look at Reading Fire Headquarters later this month with an open house event at the headquarters facility on Main Street in Reading.

The event is set for Saturday, Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will feature demonstrations and activities for attendees of all ages, as noted in an event announcement from the town of Reading.

The event will serve to cap off days of programming around Fire Prevention Week from Oct. 9 to Oct. 15.

Fire Prevention Week is a national program of the National Fire Prevention Association. It encourages communities and fire departments to engage in conversations about fire safety, advanced planning and fire mitigation.

Launched in 1922, the program is marking its 100th anniversary this year with a campaign dubbed “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.”
