Reading Man Hits State Police Cruiser In Accident Tuesday Night

A Reading man hit a state police cruiser in Newton Tuesday night.

A State Police cruiser was hit in a car accident Tuesday night in Newton, according to a press release from the Massachusetts State Police. Reading resident Peter A. Okarma, 30, was driving the other car involved.

At 2:45 a.m., the state trooper was working a detail at a construction zone on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Newton. The trooper's cruiser was hit from behind, and the impact caused the other vehicle to flip over and trapped Okarma.

Okarma was extricated from the vehicle by the Newton Fire Department and both Okarma and the trooper were transported to the hospital. The trooper had minor injuries and was released from the hospital Tuesday night. Okarma is still hospitalized.
