Reading Plans Detours As Road Work Moves Forward

Drivers in Reading may run into delays and disruptions at various points throughout town early next week.

READING, MA — Road work will prompt a series of delays, detours and road closures around Reading early next week as crews conduct milling and grinding operations, the town announced on Wednesday.

Work will begin on Monday, Aug. 8 at 7 a.m., weather permitting, on the following streets.

  • Walnut Street (from Hopkins Street to Curtis Street)
  • Lincoln Street (from Washington Street to Prescott Street)
  • Buckingham Drive
  • Cumberland Road
  • Kensington Avenue
  • Riverside Drive
  • Sunnyside Avenue (from Melbourne Avenue to cul-de-sac)
  • Victoria Avenue

Disruptions are expected to run through at least Wednesday, Aug. 10.

An on-street parking ban will be strictly enforced by Reading Police in impacted areas. Those who need their vehicle during a detour should also be prepared for potential delays, according to the town.

Anyone with road work taking place on their scheduled trash day should have their trash and recycling placed on the curb by 6:30 a.m. to ensure pickup.
