Reading Police Giving Away Bicycle Helmets for Kids

The helmets will be available at the department's open house in May.

Reading, MA - Spring is here (ignore the snow), and kids will soon be heading out on their bicycles, scooters, and skateboards.

State law requires children age 16 and younger to wear a helmet.

If you don't have a helmet, don't worry, the Reading Police Department is giving away free helmets at its open house in May.

To ensure the department has enough helmets, you will need to pre-register for this event and it will be on a first email, first serve basis.

Email Community Service Officer Stasiak at KStasiak@ci.reading.ma.us with your name and contact information as well as the following information for your child: name, gender and age – and what size helmet. Y

You must be available to pick up your new helmet at the Reading Police Station on Saturday, May 21, where the Reading Police Department will be hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dr. Laurie Douglass, Mass General Hospital, Christine Hanson, Amanda Capobianco, REI – Reading and City Cycle in Stoneham helped make the helmet donations possible, according to police.
