READING, MA — An armed man was arrested after authorities said he barricaded himself inside a James Road home, prompting a large police response and a shelter-in-place Sunday afternoon. The 59-year-old Reading man was not identified. Police said he faces charges of possession of a firearm (two counts,) possession of ammunition and disturbing the peace, with more charges potentially to follow.Officers responded to the home shortly after 2 p.m. following a 911 hang-up call. Police said they found a man in the home who they believed could have a gun and would not cooperate.Police issued a shelter-in-place in the neighborhood and shut down James and Sherwood road and Whitehall Lane. Local police and members of the regional SWAT team responded and placed the man under arrest.
