Armed Reading Man Barricaded Himself Inside Home: Police
Police said the incident prompted the shelter-in-place Sunday afternoon. No injuries were reported.
READING, MA — An armed man was arrested after authorities said he barricaded himself inside a James Road home, prompting a large police response and a shelter-in-place Sunday afternoon.
The 59-year-old Reading man was not identified. Police said he faces charges of possession of a firearm (two counts,) possession of ammunition and disturbing the peace, with more charges potentially to follow.
Officers responded to the home shortly after 2 p.m. following a 911 hang-up call. Police said they found a man in the home who they believed could have a gun and would not cooperate.

Police issued a shelter-in-place in the neighborhood and shut down James and Sherwood road and Whitehall Lane.
Local police and members of the regional SWAT team responded and placed the man under arrest. He was brought to the hospital.

The shelter-in-place was lifted around 5:15 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
