READING, MA — Two programs at the Reading Public Library will help readers experience the world this winter, without even having to leave home.

Around the World in 80 Days is a winter reading program for kids and families that is sponsored by the Friends of Reading Public Library. The program began on Dec. 1 and will last until Feb. 28.

The Around the World program challenges participants to read seven books, each one about a different continent. Book lists, grouped by continent, are available on the Reading Public Library website.

Participants are asked to record reading adventures on a passport that is available at the library's Children's Desk. The library is located at 64 Middlesex Ave.

"Every time you visit a country, we will stamp the passport," the Reading Public Library said in a statement. "Once you finish all seven, pick up your prize at the Children's Desk. Have fun exploring and learning this winter."

Meanwhile, RPL has announced plans for its second Armchair Explorer Book Club, which also has a travel theme.

Each month between January and June, librarians will choose a book about Americans abroad. Participants also will receive an invitation to an online discussion board where they can chat with fellow readers about the stories.

According to a spokesperson for the library, more details about this program soon will be available in the RPL newsletter. Library users can sign up online to receive the newsletter.
