Reading Resident Heard Third Explosion

Glenn Fiore ran the marathon Monday and heard a third explosion.

Reading resident Glenn Fiore ran his third Boston Marathon this year with Team Dana-Farber in honor of his mother, mother-in-law and father, who he lost to cancer. He heard echoes of the two explosions Monday and then heard a third while walking on Commonwealth Avenue.

Everything was going great, he said, until mile 23 when he heard the echo of two explosions. He thought it may have been fireworks or something the Red Sox were doing after the game.

He made it to mile 25 where he met his family. His brother, sister and daughter planned to run the last mile with him in honor of his mother.

His family members had heard about the bombs go off, but they didn't want to tell him at that point. So they started running.

Once they got to Commonwealth Avenue near Hereford police jumped into road and said that the race was over. His brother and sister told him about the bombs then.

"Runners were distraught, crying," Fiore said.

While walking on Commonwealth Avenue, Fiore heard a third explosion around 3:30 p.m. He heard conflicting stories about what that sound was, he said. He heard that it was Boston Police detonating another bomb along with other theories, he told Patch.

Fiore and his family are all okay, including his niece and nephew who were on Boylston Street when the explosions happened. They were about 100 yards away.

Eventually, Fiore and his family members made it back to their hotel and then home.

"Such a sad ending to a day full of ordinary people doing amazing things," he said.
