Reading Short On Crossing Guards

READING, MA — The Reading Police Department will have fewer crossing guard postings this year as it struggles to fill openings.

The department said it has not had any applicants for multiple vacancies over the last two years. It will prioritize certain postings this school year based on safety needs.

"Please understand if we can not fill these positions, some of the past crossing guard posts will not be covered this year," the department said.
