Reading's Whitelam Books Welcoming Author/Illustrator Scott Magoon

READING, MA — Local fans of author/illustrator Scott Magoon's work are in for an exciting week at Reading's Whitelam Books.

The bookshop, located at 610 Main St., began selling Magoon's latest graphic novel "The Extincts 2: Flight of the Mammoth" when it was released Tuesday. The store anticipated the books selling out.

At 5 p.m. Saturday, Whitelam will welcome Magoon to the shop for a celebration of "Flight of the Mammoth," which is the sequel to the widely-acclaimed 2022 graphic novel "The Extincts: Quest for the Unicorn Horn." Whitelam said the in-store event is great for readers ages 7 to 13.

Like "Unicorn Horn," "Fight of the Mammoth" follows the members of the secret organization ROAR (Rescue Ops Acquisition Rangers) on their latest adventure.

Magoon, according to his website, is a Northeastern graduate whose first paid drawing gig was publishing "Duct Tape Man" a weekly comic strip in the college paper, The Northeastern News.

In addition to the "Extincts" series, Magoon is the author/illustrator of "Linus The Little Yellow Pencil," "Breathe," and "The Boy Who Cried Bigfoot."

Magoon also has been the illustrator-only for books such as New York Times bestselling "Rescue & Jessica: A Life-Changing Friendship," by Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes, the "Misunderstood Shark" series by Ame Dyckman, and the "Spoon" series by Amy Krouse Rosenthal.
