State Trooper Killed In I-93 Crash Had Ties To Reading

READING, MA — A Massachusetts State Police trooper killed in a crash on I-93 was a former resident of Reading.

Tamar Bucci, 34, lived in Reading for many years and graduated from the Reading Police Department's Citizens Police Academy, according to a statement on the department's Facebook page.

"We at the RPD were lucky to have met this wonderful young lady...she told us she wanted to be a police officer, and she stuck with her dreams and became a Massachusetts state trooper," the statement read in part.

Bucci died after her cruiser was struck by a tanker truck in Stoneham late Thursday night. She was pulled over trying to help another driver at the time of the crash.

Before joining the Massachusetts State Police in May 2020, Bucci was a personal trainer and worked security at Encore Boston Harbor in Everett. She was a graduate of Middlesex Community College and Andover High School.

Bucci is survived by her mother and father, two sisters, a stepsister and a stepbrother, state police said.
