String of Car Break-Ins Reported Over Weekend

The following is an excerpt from the Reading Police Department log from Friday through Monday. The information is open to the public.

Arrests

At 2:01 p.m. Monday, Julio Valentin Jr., 36, of 62 Austin St. Hyde Park was arrested on charges of operating under the influence on West Street.

Friday, April 26

  • At 9:34 a.m., a caller reported that her car was hit while parked on Woburn Street.
  • At 12:40 p.m., an off-duty officer could smell marijuana on North Main Street and discovered a female smoking marijuana in a parked car. She was cited for possession of under one ounce of marijuana. 
  • At 3:48 p.m., a female reported a possible stalker.
  • At 8:19 p.m., a caller reported that his vehicle was keyed while parked on Walkers Brook Drive.
  • At 9:33 p.m., a tip was received through the anonymous tip line about an underage drinking party on Susan Drive. Police checked the area, but did not find anything. 

Saturday, April 27

  • At 9:16 a.m., a caller reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole change. 
  • At 9:42 a.m., a caller reported that her car was hit while parked on Main Street. 
  • At 12:13 p.m., a William Road resident reported that his vehicle was broken into during the night.
  • At 2:02 p.m., a caller reported that her vehicle was broken into overnight while parked on Franklin Street. Sunglasses and an iPod were stolen.
  • At 2:31 p.m., a Kieran Road resident reported that her vehicle was broken into overnight and items were stolen.
  • At 3:41 p.m., a Kieran Road resident reported that his vehicle was broken into overnight and items were taken.

Sunday, April 28

  • At 9:18 a.m., a caller reported a car accident on Haverhill Street. 
  • At 11:40 a.m., a caller reported a car accident on Summer Avenue.
  • At 2:24 p.m., a Washington Street resident reported two generators stolen from his yard.
  • At 6:29 p.m., a caller reported that her purse was stolen while she was in Market Basket.

Monday, April 29

  • At 8:33 a.m., an Edwin Street resident reported that his vehicle was broken into overnight.
  • At 6:29 p.m., a Kieran Road resident reported that her car was entered over the weekend and a GPS, checks and loose change were taken.
