Third Annual PMC Reading Kids Ride Raises Money for Dana Farber

The ride raised over $25,000 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in the first two years, and the third annual ride will be held this June.

The Swanson family started the Reading PMC Kids Ride three years ago. The children in the family wanted to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute after their uncle died of colon cancer.

"The ride was thought of as a result of my sons' desire to do something in memory of their Uncle Brian Swanson (a Reading resident) who died of colon cancer at 36-years-old in November of 2009," Julie Swanson said.

The family has raised over $25,000 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in the past two years, and this year the ride will take place on June 23.

"We anticipate 200 kids to ride this year and hope to raise $15,000 or more for Dana Farber," Julie Swanson said.

There is a pre-ride warm up party on Friday, May 31 at 5 p.m. at Fit Revolution inside the RAMS Athletic Complex in North Reading. Kids will practice for the ride on spinning bikes. A pizza party will take place after the ride with raffles and door prizes.

The cost of the pre-ride event is $15 per child with $5 per child being donated directly the Kids PMC Reading Ride. Children participating in this event do not have to be registered riders for the Kids PMC, but all riders must be 50 inches or taller.
