READING, MA — The Town of Reading is reminding residents to clean up after their dogs and dispose of the bags filled with dog excrement.

According to Town officials, there have been multiple recent reports about excessive dog waste being found on Gould Street, specifically on the tree lawn across from 24 Gould St., officials said.

"We also have other areas of town, and some parks, that are frequently (ahem) be-pooed," a Town spokesperson wrote in a Facebook message.

According to officials, cleaning up after your dog requires placing excrement in a bag, and then disposing of the bag in your own trash bin.

"Do not bag it and leave it on the sidewalk, the tree lawn, throw it in a catch basin or drop it in someone else's trash bin. Take it home already," a Reading official said in the Facebook post.

In addition to being smelly and unsightly, Reading officials point out that dog waste left to decompose also is unsanitary.

"It especially should not end up in our stormwater runoff," officials said.
